The popular charity event for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art this year had the late designer and fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld as its central theme. The theme of the 2023 Met Gala, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” required A-Listers in attendance to dress “in honor of Karl.”
A$AP Rocky and Rihanna made the wait worth it with their red carpet looks. Rocky attended the event in a suit jacket, jeans and plaid skirt, while the famous singer chose a Valentino dress, decorated with rosettes on the bodice and a ballgown skirt for her.
The supermodel stunned in a sleeveless pink and silver toga dress with a silver foil bloomer bodice. Her gown had a high neck of silver floral appliqué, while the side ended in a pink satin veil. The side of the skirt featured silver detailing, while the back of the dress featured a high slit that revealed her long legs. She completed her look with a pair of silver metallic peep-toe heels, dangling diamond earrings, a pink clutch and eye-catching glitter.
Penelope, who was a close friend of Lagerfeld’s, chose a Chanel gown she had chosen when she received her Oscar in 2008. The embellishments lining the hood of the dress resemble those of a traditional Spanish headscarf.
Olivia Wilde chose a violin dress that Lagerfeld originally designed in 1983 when he was still at Chloé. The look combines high fashion in a way that defines Lagerfeld’s designs.
